[Palo Alto, CA] — Pamela Walsh Gallery is pleased to present quiet steps | LOUD THOUGHTS, a two-person exhibition featuring Bay Area painter Fernando Reyes and Southern California ceramic artist Emily Rose Casares. Opening March 15, 2025, with a reception from 5–7 p.m. and an artist talk at 6 p.m., the exhibition will run through April 19, 2025.
quiet steps | LOUD THOUGHTS brings together the newest paintings by Reyes—his third exhibition at Pamela Walsh Gallery—alongside ceramic sculptures by his niece, Casares. Though separated by nearly two generations, the two artists share an unspoken artistic dialogue rooted in self-discovery and personal reflection. Their work, expressed in different mediums, explores themes of movement, transformation, and contemplation. Reyes’ vibrant paintings and Casares’ bold sculptural ceramics radiate a dynamic energy, each revealing a journey shaped by solitude, introspection, and creative expression.
Fernando Reyes’ work is a testament to his ability to translate the energy of nature into striking compositions. Inspired by California’s winding trails and foothills, his paintings capture the tension between structure and spontaneity. Through layered colors, tangled shapes, and dynamic shadows, Reyes creates images that pulse with life. His gestural human figures emerge from sweeping strokes of color, embodying motion and vitality. This exhibition continues his ongoing exploration of the natural and figurative worlds, marking another milestone in his evolving practice.
Emily Rose Casares’ ceramic sculptures offer a deeply personal reflection on the intersections of nature, identity, and the body. With meticulous attention to texture and glaze, she transforms raw earth into expressive forms that exude both strength and fragility. Casares’ work navigates an internal landscape, shaping human figures, flora, and organic elements with a contemporary sensibility. Each piece—whether a delicate petal or a bold human form—is an intimate act of self-expression, capturing the vibrancy and curiosity that define her artistic practice.
Together, Reyes and Casares present a compelling dialogue between painting and sculpture, experience and exploration, tradition and reinvention. Their works invite viewers to consider how art serves as a pathway—through nature, introspection, and the expressive power of form and color. In quiet steps | LOUD THOUGHTS, their artistic voices converge in a shared pursuit of understanding, offering a space for contemplation, connection, and discovery.
