Overview

Pamela Walsh Gallery is pleased to present Under the Big Black Sun, a solo exhibition of new works by Los Angeles-based interdisciplinary artist, Cody Bayne. The exhibition will open on Saturday, July 22nd with an Artist Reception from 5-7pm. It will be on view in the gallery until September 2nd, 2023.

Under the Big Black Sun is a thought-provoking exhibition that explores the complexities of living in a city known for both its glamor and its dark underbelly. The show derives its name from two seminal moments in Los Angeles history: the release of the punk rock band X's album "Under the Big Black Sun" in 1983, and former MOCA curator Paul Schimmel's survey exhibition, Under the Big Black Sun: California Art 1974-1981, part of Pacific Standard Time in 2011. In this new body of work, Bayne harvests materials from the urban landscape, translating what is often seen as common ephemera into art. He transforms this found material into a unique vernacular that symbolizes the experience of living in a challenging modern city, where the urban legend of the California dream often clashes with the reality of life.
