Anna Sidana Indian
Anna Sidana is an Indian artist based in San Francisco known for her paintings of imaginary botanical fantasylands. Her art practice explores an emotional connection with her surroundings and family history, leveraging nature, current issues, and the transcontinental experiences of growing up in India, Europe, and the United States. After a career in technology working in Silicon Valley, Anna found herself yearning for a deeper connection to life and her surroundings. She immersed herself in an art practice. She found deep meaning in her childhood memories of the family farm in Rajasthan, India. Playing hide and seek in the mango orchards, cotton fields, and pomegranate trees became the source of her creative expression. “Through the lusciousness of oil paint, I experience sheer joy to intense sadness and lose myself in the push and pull of hues and brush strokes to transcend the canvas in myriad emotions, “ she said. Taking a contemporary twist on landscape painting, Sidana blurs the traditional horizon while engaging the viewer in an emotional space. Through symbolism and abstraction, she creates a labyrinth that is not a specific place but rather an immersive and visceral experience through her oil paintings.
Anna is an award-winning visual artist and has shown her work at the de Young Museum of San Francisco, Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, The Diego Rivera Gallery, and at Times Square, New York. She has also participated in the London Art Biennale, and the Louisiana Biennial amongst others as well as artist residencies including the Van Gogh Immersive co-residency with Villa San Francisco and at Chateau Orquevaux in France. Anna serves on the board of the Djerassi Resident ArtistsProgram. Anna holds a bachelor's from the British Computer Society (BCS) and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI). Prior to a career in the arts, Anna held executive marketing roles with companies at the forefront of eCommerce and digital marketing.
