MARNA SHOPOFF

Marna Shopoff, an Indianapolis-based painter, blends both contemporary and traditional methods in creating her superbly executed abstract paintings. Fascinated by phenomenology, the philosophical study of the structures of experience, her canvases fracture space into a complex mosaic of geometric shapes and pulsing color inspired by personal experiences and memories.

Marna’s paintings are elegantly structured. Creating depth, balance and motion in the three-dimensional space of her architectural compositions. Unlike many abstract paintings seen today, hers have a focal point that draws the viewer in, allowing you to visually enjoy the whirl of shape and color throughout the transparent, overlapping layers.

MATT GIL

Tucked away on a quiet street in San Francisco, Matt has been creating spectacular sculptures for more than twenty-five years in his live/work studio. He is a curious and innovative builder; always considering new ways to create shapes using different materials and approaches. His process is a multi-faceted journey of creation that starts with drawings that fill dozens of sketchbooks. His shapes are Modernist, organic and feminine with curving lines that play with positive and negative space in a clever way. He works in bronze, aluminum, stainless steel and ceramics, which allows for a pleasing variation in his visual language. Matt also has a great sense of humor that comes through in his playful shapes and titles.

Matt’s work can be found in the permanent collection of SFMOMA, as well as corporate and private collections around the world. He is particularly well-known in the Bay Area, having placed monumental sculptures in the corporate collections of companies such as Genentech and Yahoo, and is currently creating another major commission in the city of Palo Alto.
